Mustangs Outrun by the Outlaws
On to H-Town!
The Lone Star Mustangs went to Austin on May 9th and suffered their second loss to the
hard running Outlaws who are now 3-0 and in the lead of the Texas Division of the WFA.
#24 of the Outlaws should be on the Mustangs' Most Wanted List as she accounted for all
four of the Outlaws' touchdowns. Any team playing against the Outlaws will have to account
for Shadana's outstanding speed, agility, and ability to read blocks.
The Mustangs had some excellent performances as well. On the
defensive side of the ball, #90 Alexandra "The Animal" Harvey tacked on
8 more tackles to her impressive count for the year. #82 Daniela Ottaiano
also turned in an impressive 8 tackles. #16 Casey Ray-Tribble had 7
tackles, 2 for a loss, and 1 sack. #15 Ebony Jones had a pass tip and
interception return for a touchdown from the defensive end position. #28
Stuff Spencer forced a fumble and had 5 tackles with 1 for a loss. #99
Deondra Selph had a blocked field goal attempt along with her 5 tackles
and 1 for a loss.
The Mustangs offense marched down the field several times only to be
stopped in the red zone on a few occasions. #11 Brittany Satterwhite  had
5 catches for 112 yards with the throws coming from #4 Jennifer Hull. #13
Brandice Mueller had 3 catches for 54 yards. #30 Ashley "Q" McCuin had
3 catches for 37 yards, and two kickoff returns for a total of 79 yards.
The Lone Star Mustangs are headed to H-Town this week to take on the Cyclones. This will
be yet another tough battle in Texas women's football! Come check it out Mustangs' fans at
7:00 PM at Houston's W.W. Thorne Stadium. Good luck Mustangs!
Mustangs Take Down the
H-Town Cyclones
The Lone Star Mustangs have now taken their official record to 3-2 (includes a forfeit by
East Texas) by defeating the H-Town Texas Cyclones for a second time this season. The
the game. Luckily the weather began to ease up a little around game time, but there was a
problem...no power to the stadium! Some poor individual had driven their car into the power
pole adjacent to the stadium, causing a power outage to the immediate area. Both teams
could have folded up their equipment and gone home, but both teams simply wanted to play
football...no matter how long it took to get the lights on! So, we all waited including a few
brave fans for both teams who we would like to thank for staying to watch the game.
The independent power company, who has not been identified as of the writing of this
article, truly braved through lightning in the area to make sure that the stadium would have
lights for the game. It took a little while, but by 9:30 PM excited cheers could be heard
throughout the locker rooms and fans as the lights finally came on for good! After a brief
warm-up, the kickoff occurred around 10 PM.
As expected, this was another hard fought football game as both teams attempted to impose
their will on one another. Every yard earned by either offense was tough and the scoring
opportunities were few. The game was full of hard hits from the defense and exciting runs by
both teams.
The Mustangs as a team did not have their best night statistically, although their were
some stellar individual performances according to the statistics that will be mentioned later in
this article. However, the true story of the night was the Mustangs' will to overcome adversity
and work together as a team to ensure a victory. As with every battle, there were small wins
and losses on both sides of the ball for the Mustangs. There were plenty of opportunities for
the Mustangs to lose the excitement and focus it takes to win a football game against the
Cyclones. From the sideline perspective, the Mustangs never lost the excitement or the
focus. All stats aside, this was the best game for the Mustangs so far this season. This is a
new team with a handful of veterans, but they are growing up quickly!
Now for the statistical leaders of the Mustangs for the May 16, 2009 game versus the
H-Town Cyclones:

Counter
The Lone Star Mustangs hosted the undefeated Austin Outlaws on Saturday May 30,
2009 at Pennington Field in Bedford, TX. After two previous meetings with the Outlaws that
the Outlaws. The Mustangs’ hunger for victory was as strong as the day was hot (92
degrees in the shade of course). The hunger was finally satisfied (at least until the next
practice) when the final score read 28-14 Mustangs!  This win by the Mustangs leaves the
door open for the playoffs in their first year.  No one team is safe among the Texas women’
s football teams…it is coming down to who wants to step up at the end of the season!
The Mustangs had a productive day on offense with 214 yards on the ground spread out
over 49 carries and 9 different ball carriers. The Mustangs changed up their ground game
a bit from the first games by putting the “Big Dogs” in the backfield. In the past, the
Mustangs were searching for all out speed and agility in the backfield to try o outrun the
defense. The “Big Dogs” aren’t necessarily the fastest women on the team, but they make
the opposing team need a couple of Tylenol pills after the game. These women love to hit
in the ground and pound game. The original “Big Dogs” are #33 Stephanie “Freight Train”
Wakefield, #24 Shug Fossis, and #14 Maddie Williams. As the game progressed and the
Big Dogs began to wear down the defense, players such as #11 Brittany “Street Ball”
Satterwhite and #13 Brandice Mueller were added into the game for speed and agility. It
paid off!
The change in philosophy didn’t stop there! The Mustangs turned to two individuals at
the tight end position for all of the receptions in the game. #4 Jennifer Hull connected with
#51 Yo Grant who had 2 touchdowns in 2 catches. #62 Etta Maytubby tacked on 5
additional catches for 75 yards and saved offensive drives from stalling. The overall
change in philosophy allowed the offense of the Mustangs to control the clock for nearly
the entire game.
The defense made some great plays to corral #24 Shadana Hurd. Shadana had hurt
the Mustangs in both of the previous meetings with the Outlaws. The defense as a team
played very well and held Shadana to just 27 yards on the ground! #15 Ebony Jones was
the leading tackler once again for the Mustangs with 8 tackles from the defensive end
position.#82 Daniela Ottaiano followed with 6 tackles from the safety position. And last but
not least in the top three tacklers, #90 Alexandra Harvey had 5 tackles with 3 sacks. #31
Joy Newkirk sealed the game at the end by making her first interception of the year. #32
Venessa Martinez helped the Mustangs hold on to the ball by recovering a short kickoff.
#55 Eboni Vincentti turned in a fumble recovery as well on another good day from the
outside linebacker position.
The Lone Star Mustangs are now 5-2 with one final game against the H-Town Texas
Cyclones scheduled on June 20th in Houston. The Mustangs must sit and watch as the H-
Town Cyclones and the Austin Outlaws battle in Austin this weekend. The Mustangs have
overcome a lot of hurdles in this first season of play. Whether the Mustangs make the
playoffs or not, the future looks bright for the Mustangs and the competitive nature of
women’s football in Texas!

Mustangs Took Care of Business
in Houston
The Lone Star Mustangs (6-2) defeated the H -Town Texas Cyclones(2-5) 31- 0 to
complete their sweep of the former National Champions. The Mustangs finally had the first
game with Houston to be played without rain, lightning, or other distractions. It was a hot 102
degree day at game time...bring on the water!
The Mustangs made some changes in the lineup for the final game. #4 Jennifer Hull
who typically has primarily played quarterback for the Mustangs stepped aside for #9 Leslie
Crow to play the game. Hull moved over to defense and was the leading tackler of the game
with 11 tackles, 5 tackles for loss, 1 interception for a touchdown, and a forced fumble. She
played defensive end, inside linebacker, and outside linebacker and played some great
instinctive defense.
Leslie Crow started and finished all but the last play on offense for the Mustangs. Crow
was 5/13 in the air to include a two point conversion fake kick and throw to #62 Etta
Maytubby in the 1st quarter. The head coach of the Mustangs pointed out that Etta
Maytubby made some hand signals to tell him that she was not going to be covered. Coach
Mike then made a simple hand gesture to Crow...without anyone else on the team realizing
the fake was coming, Etta released into the end zone and was wide open for the pass. The
touchdown came on the Hull interception of a sweep toss in the backfield! Crow settled in
after this series and was able to play her first complete game as a Mustang.
#24 Shug Fossis and #11Brittany Satterwhite tacked on a touchdown a piece with good
hard running. Shug was very consistent this year with her "Bus" like running approach.
Brittany displayed her quickness and ability to find the hole with her touchdown run. #13
Brandice Mueller played the majority of the game at running back and receiver, but she
stepped in for one play at quarterback toward the end of the game. With her, #15 Ebony
Jones, # 36 Legs Dixon, and #28 Stuff Spencer (all defensive players) joined Brittany
Satterwhite at receiver. They were all told to "go long" and look back for the ball. Brandice
Mueller took the snap from the shotgun, took a couple of steps back and let the ball go in a
perfect spiral right into the hands of Stuff Spencer who ran into the end zone for her first
touchdown!
The defense had a great game once again and kept the Cyclones on their heels. #15
Ebony Jones turned in another great performance and has been established as the 3rd
highest on the league tackles for loss list at 21.5.  #90 Alex Harvey also turned in a great
performance and finished 7th on the tackle for loss list at 14.5. Alex also had the opportunity
to play fullback in this game and showed some promise at the position going into the
off-season. #32 Venessa Martinez moved up on the league leader board with her second
fumble recovery in two weeks. #80 DJ Gay turned in another 5 tackles and scored a safety
on her 1 tackle for loss to add to her very consistent performances this season. It is also
noteworthy that the Mustangs offensive line was able to take a couple of snaps on defense.
What a way to finish!
This marks the end of the first season for the Lone Star Mustangs and the graduation
from rookie status to 1 year veterans for many of the Mustangs. Both the H-town Cyclones
and the Lone Star Mustangs are looking forward to another great season next year! Tryouts
have started in Houston already and will begin in Dallas/Fort Worth on October 3rd, 10th,
and 17th! Check back to this web site on the tryouts tab for more information!
