5 Secrets to a Successful Football Franchise
|
By: LynMarie Liberty-Ellington, MBA
Many elements go into creating a successful franchise. Just the football game
requires coordinating numerous things such as ticket sales, concessions, audio and
video, medical staff, and officials. But the aspects behind the scenes create the
backbone of a successful franchise as a whole all year round. The five secrets of a
successful franchise are:
1. Good leadership
2. Understanding of the fundamentals of football
3. Ready and willing players
4. Enthusiastic staff
5. Loyal community
We hear many stories of organizations that fall apart each day. Whether it is a
franchise, non-profit, or an innovative new organization, good leadership is key to
providing the organization with guidance of where the company is going and what is
needed of its players or employees to get there. Without good leadership different
departments work at different goals and sometimes even work against each other.
They pull different resources and waste much needed funds in ways that do not lead
them to a quality end result. A football franchise is made up of the management staff,
coaches, players, and fans. If one element is working in a different direction, then its
resources are being wasted.
Coaches and players must understand the fundamentals of football before setting
foot on the field. With our particular league, it is important to remember the players
are at all different levels of understanding. Some memorize stats of their favorite
NFL player while others are not sure how many downs they have to get the ball 10
yards. It is essential to franchise success that each and every player be taught the
fundamentals of the game. Teams can get lucky, but they will never have long term
success if the players are not well versed on the basics such as throwing, catching,
tackling and the rules of the game.
One of the most important elements of a successful football franchise is its players.
As the season goes on, sometimes teams are widdled down to nothing with other
time commitments, responsibilities, and injuries. It is the team’s responsibility to
locate and train players, but also to keep them motivated to play for the team.
Recruiting new, potential players can never stop and sometimes requires creative
thinking. The bottom line is that there are many women out their that enjoy football
and like the idea of year-round fitness.
The forth secret to a successful football franchise is having an enthusiastic staff. The
coaches, office staff, and players should always be willing and able to let the
community know about the team. The individuals should be proud of the team, its
efforts and what they stand for. It is important for the team’s enjoyment and what the
team does as a group is communicated to others in the community with genuine
enthusiasm and pride.
Finally, one cannot have a successful football franchise, in any league, without the
loyalty of the community. A team depends on the community for its patronage and its
enjoyment of watching the team play. Many teams depend on the area to sponsor
events, advertise with the team, and volunteer their time to make the team a
success. While several players participate for the sheer enjoyment of the game,
entertaining area friends and neighbors and educating the public about the sport are
also goals of the team.
