Lone Star Mustangs
Shut Down the Power
Bedford, TX - April 17, 2010 - The Lone Star
Mustangs came together to overcome a lot of
adversity on Saturday and emerged
victorious....then they played a football game and
won that too! After some difficulty with the travel
arrangements for the game, the team members
worked together to make a plan and execute it to
get everyone to the game in time to start on time
against the Houston Power. The warm-ups were a
little shorter than usual and mental mistakes a little
more frequent than usual in the first half, but the
Mustangs pulled it together for a victory 32-13.
Offensively, the Mustangs put on another display of diversity with 4 different backs scoring
the touchdowns (Brittany Satterwhite, Jay Jay Jones, Brittany Bushman, and Stephanie
Wakefield) with the leading rusher Odessa Jenkins carrying the ball 10 times for 85 yards.
Odessa Jenkins also caught 2 passes for a total of 43 more yards and returned 1 kickoff for
30 yards. Melissa Beach had the longest reception of the day for 50 yards. Additional
offensive producers were the two tightends Yo Grant and Etta Maytubby (Leading receiver
for the Mustangs).
Defensively, Jennifer Hull lead the team with 9 tackles and Daniela Ottaiano made 5 tackles.
TK Hart and Stuff Spencer each took down an interception each and DJ Gay blocked an
extra point try. More importantly, 16 different defenders had 2 or more tackles as a
testament to the depth and effort by the Mustangs Black Shirt Defense.
After the game, Coach Mike stated "the
Mustangs are not about one star player...I have
never seen players play such unselfish football.
That is what makes this team different and
successful."
The Mustangs have a bye week this week and
look forward to meeting the Houston Power
again on their home turf at Pennington Field in
Bedford, TX on May 1st at 1 PM!
