Mustangs Take Down the H-Town Cyclones
|
The Lone Star Mustangs have now taken their official record to 3-2 (includes a forfeit by
East Texas) by defeating the H-Town Texas Cyclones for a second time this season. The
the game. Luckily the weather began to ease up a little around game time, but there was a
problem...no power to the stadium! Some poor individual had driven their car into the power
pole adjacent to the stadium, causing a power outage to the immediate area. Both teams
could have folded up their equipment and gone home, but both teams simply wanted to play
football...no matter how long it took to get the lights on! So, we all waited including a few
brave fans for both teams who we would like to thank for staying to watch the game.
The independent power company, who has not been identified as of the writing of this
article, truly braved through lightning in the area to make sure that the stadium would have
lights for the game. It took a little while, but by 9:30 PM excited cheers could be heard
throughout the locker rooms and fans as the lights finally came on for good! After a brief
warm-up, the kickoff occurred around 10 PM.
As expected, this was another hard fought football game as both teams attempted to
impose their will on one another. Every yard earned by either offense was tough and the
scoring opportunities were few. The game was full of hard hits from the defense and exciting
runs by both teams.
The Mustangs as a team did not have their best night statistically, although their were
some stellar individual performances according to the statistics that will be mentioned later in
this article. However, the true story of the night was the Mustangs' will to overcome adversity
and work together as a team to ensure a victory. As with every battle, there were small wins
and losses on both sides of the ball for the Mustangs. There were plenty of opportunities for
the Mustangs to lose the excitement and focus it takes to win a football game against the
Cyclones. From the sideline perspective, the Mustangs never lost the excitement or the
focus. All stats aside, this was the best game for the Mustangs so far this season. This is a
new team with a handful of veterans, but they are growing up quickly!
