| Lone Star Mustangs Keep the Championship Hopes Alive |
DFW, TX - July 10, 2010, The undefeated Lone Star Mustangs secured a spot in the
semi-final playoff game versus the Las Vegas Showgirlz in Las Vegas, NV on July 17, 2010
by defeating the Iowa Thunder in the Des Moines area. The Mustangs defeated the Iowa
Thunder 30-20 in a hard fought game featuring some of the league's best and most
recognized players. The game was filled with some great hard hits and some blazing fast
running on both teams.
The Mustang "Black Shirt" Defense did their share to secure the win Saturday night by
forcing two entries into the red zone to go on the books as field goals and by scoring a
crucial 2 points with a safety (Yvette Abrego #72)! Odessa Jenkins added to her collection
of big plays and stopped a good drive by Iowa when she intercepted the ball.
Offensively, the three primary running backs for the Mustangs had a great night with good
strong runs coming from #33 Stephanie "The Freight Train" Wakefield, #3 Odessa "Yellow
Shoes" Jenkins, and #5 Brittany "The Youngsta" Satterwhite. #86 Melissa Beach got the
call on the first offensive play for the Mustangs when she hauled in a beautiful pass from
#8 Brittany "Slash" Bushman.
The Mustangs played hard and emerged victorious. With this victory, the Mustangs enter
the semi-finals of the Women's Football Alliance and will being playing against the Las
Vegas Showgirlz this Saturday (July 17, 2010) in Las Vegas, NV. On such short notice for
travel and playing a good team, the Mustangs will have their work cut out for them. As
opposed to the Iowa Thunder who were one dimensional in the running game, the
Showgirlz have shown (no pun intended) that they are primarily a passing team. This
should make for a great winner-take-all matchup as the winner will head to the
Championship game against either the defending champion St. Louis Slam or the
Columbus Comets.
